Job summary

MasTec Utility Services is seeking a Mechanic III to maintain and repair heavy equipment and vehicles across multiple departments. You will diagnose issues, perform repairs, and ensure safe, compliant operation of fleet assets.

The position requires owning tools, a valid CDL, and 5 years of experience. Work hours are typically Monday to Friday, 7:00 am–5:30 pm, in field environments with potential for outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

• MUST HAVE OWN TOOLS; 1/4" up to 2".
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• CDL class A/B or ability to receive within 90 days.
• 5 years of experience.
• Knowledge of vehicle and equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, and diagnostics.
• Knowledge of safety guidelines and procedures.
• Ability to do tune-ups, engine work, hydraulic work, cylinder replacing, pressure setting for backhoe, basic engine repair, and electric repair.
• Basic diesel and drive train experience.
• Ability to use cutting torch and basic welding skills.
• Knowledge of minor heavy equipment repairs.
• Ability to work in inclement weather
• Ability to work schedule M - F; 7am - 5:30pm

Responsibilities

• Inspect and repair company/utility equipment, such as pickup trucks, line trucks, trailers, mini excavators, digger dericks, backhoes, compressors, and generators, in a safe, timely, and cost effective manner.
• Troubleshoot diesel and gas engines
• Perform road tests and operational checks of vehicles and equipment to ensure quality of repairs and service.
• Place orders for required parts, materials and supplies, as required.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports.
• Monitor prioritized projects, activities, and assignments to ensure completion of deadlines.
• Maintain tools, supplies, and workstations in a clean, safe and presentable manner.
• Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
