Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site Field Inspector to join our Transportation Construction, Engineering and Inspection team. You will perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials at multiple project sites across various states.

The role requires reading plans, interpreting specifications, and communicating findings clearly in English. Travel 20–40% is expected, with supervision from senior inspectors and engineers.

Qualifications

• Verbal and written English communication required.
• Basic arithmetic skills for measurement and calculations.
• Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and related tools.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to project needs.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials under direct supervision.
• Determine the acceptability of day-to-day work and review contractor reports for QC adherence.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance and measure quantities of materials placed.
