Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Construction Inspector for the Transportation Construction, Engineering and Inspection group to monitor and inspect construction activities at field locations. The role requires knowledge of materials, construction methods, and ability to read drawings and specifications.

The position involves direct supervision by senior inspectors/engineers, travel 20%–40%, and a driver’s license. Employment will reflect the company’s equal opportunity policies and project demands.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
• Basic knowledge of arithmetic.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of a project under direct supervision.
• Determine the acceptability of the day-to-day work performed by the contractor; review and recommend acceptance/rejection of daily reports; examine contractor quality control procedures and material testing; verify conformance with the Quality Control Plan.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance to the contract and measure quantities of materials placed; may perform sampling and/or in-place testing of soil, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt concrete pavement.
