Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Resident Engineer in the United States-Arizona-Phoenix area. The role focuses on interpreting drawings, tracking progress, and ensuring contract compliance while leading a team of inspectors and junior staff.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's in Engineering or Construction Management, 10+ years in construction including estimating and scheduling, and a PE or equivalent license. Proficiency with Bluebeam and MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field.
• 10 years related experience in construction including estimating, bidding, preparing purchase orders and subcontracts, scheduling, and field engineering.
• Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (PE or equivalent).
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); Bluebeam, estimating & scheduling software, and web-based document collaboration software
• Experience developing and managing construction engineering and inspection programs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; active participation in employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identify discrepancies or conflicts.
• Maintain accurate daily records of contractor activities, labor, equipment, and materials used.
• Review construction materials for contract compliance.
• Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance.
• Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings.
• Observe installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems.
• Identify nonconforming work, develop punch lists and maintain until corrected.
• Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance.
• Assist with project audit/closeout.
• Work under general supervision of a Design Project Manager.
• Supervise and direct activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and construction inspectors, testing services and subconsultants.
