The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University seeks a Senior, Part-Time Fiber-Optic Applications Research and Development Engineer to advance optical system development and manufacturing technology improvements at ARL's Freeport, PA location.

Qualifications

• A technical BS degree in Physics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years managing fiber optic projects.
• Experience managing DoD applications and program proposals.
• Broad understanding of photonic and fiber design for DoD systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to transition technology to implementation.

Responsibilities

• Perform research and development tasks in fiber-optical applications, including prototype development and testing.
• Communicate and document results in reports and presentations.
• Assist with development of proposals for projects.
• Lead fiber-optic projects of small or moderate size and scope.
• Engage with government customers to identify opportunities and provide potential solutions.
