Job summary

Virginia Department of Social Services is seeking a Family Services Manager to supervise a team delivering direct services across foster care, CPS, and adult/dependent services. You will train staff, lead program evaluations, and collaborate with leadership to improve outcomes for children and families.

You will oversee casework, maintain compliance with policy, and serve as a bridge to community partners during high-stress situations. On-call coverage is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field with two years of related experience.
• Considerable knowledge of supervision principles, policies, and regulations for direct service programs.
• Experience with casework supervision and staff development.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision to Family Services Specialists unit.
• Identify families that will benefit from agency support to maintain children at home.
• Ensure staff identify safety and risk concerns and reduce maltreatment.
• Meet regularly with staff to review case progress and service implementation.
• Collaborate with unit supervisors and agency leadership.
• Close cases timely and ensure staff follow mandated guidance.
• Perform casework on high-profile or conflict cases when requested.
• Provide training to new staff and evaluate progress.
• Establish working relationships with community partners.
• Provide back-up supervision for on-call workers.
