Job summary

Wheeler is seeking a Senior Counselor to provide comprehensive, short-term, home-based services to families involved with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in Hartford, CT. The role emphasizes safety, stability, and family functioning with supervision and collaboration across schools and community providers.

The position offers a $4,000 sign-on bonus (half paid at hire and half at one year) and an hourly rate of $23.08.

Qualifications

BA/BS degree in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling or related field is required.
Experience with clients who have mental health and/or co-occurring substance use disorders.
Effective time management, strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
Valid Driver's License is required; operates vehicle in the community as needed.

Responsibilities

Develops case management plans or plans of care for assigned clients/families, coordinating care and documenting as required.
Provides front line crisis support to individuals and families by phone, in-home or in the community as needed.
Makes decisions based on data, adapts guidelines to client needs, and consults with supervisor as needed.
Delivers group, individual, and family counseling with supervision and coordinates treatment with internal and external providers.
Maintains accurate records for Medicaid, licensing and regulatory requirements.
Participates in supervision, team meetings, and care coordination to support client safety and treatment goals.
