Job summary

Kenyon College is seeking a Senior Facilities Planner/Project Manager to lead planning, design, and execution of capital projects including new construction, renewal and renovation. You will develop scopes and budgets, supervise design teams and contractors, and oversee contracts and budgets to align with campus standards.

The role reports to the COO and works with the Campus Operations team to ensure projects integrate smoothly with campus operations and strategic plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management.
  • Ten years of experience in facilities and campus planning, construction administration, project planning, or project management.
  • Experience with Sustainability programs including design, construction, and operations.
  • Current licensure as an engineer or architect (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a partner across campus functions and oversee planning and design initiatives.
  • Develop and manage contracts, budgets and procurement processes for capital projects.
  • Coordinate design teams, general contractors, and vendors to meet campus standards.
  • Lead project documentation, scheduling, and reporting to ensure contract compliance.

Job description

Kenyon College is searching for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Senior Facilities Planner/Project Manager. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Senior Facilities Planner/Project Manager is responsible for managing planning and design initiatives and executing capital projects, including new construction, renewal, and renovation. The position will be responsible for developing project scopes and budgets, supervision of design teams, general contractors, and construction management firms, and overseeing contracts and budgets. The position will support the COO in developing specific planning initiatives and long-range facilities plans and capital budgets.

As a member of the Campus Operations team, the position will work closely with other leaders in the division and with other campus leaders and stakeholders. A primary focus will be to ensure involvement and collaboration with operations colleagues to ensure that projects are integrated seamlessly into campus operations.

Essential Functions

The position has the following specific responsibilities:

  • Serving as a collaborative and engaged partner across all campus functions.
  • Developing and refining contracts and budget processes and procedures.
  • Providing guidance and direction to staff, contractors, and vendors in conjunction with the development and implementation of capital projects to ensure campus standards are met.
  • Overseeing project documentation and records.
  • Leading the business partner selection process for planning, design, construction, and consulting initiatives.
  • Collaborating with internal and external constituencies to ensure successful planning and construction of new facilities and renovation/renewal projects.
  • Serving as the liaison with village, state, and federal agencies, and governing bodies and ensuring compliance with all codes, laws, and regulations.
  • Identifying contractors, consultants, architects, engineers, and vendors in conjunction with the Kenyon contracting policies and leading contract negotiations.
  • Serving as the liaison with architects, contractors, and consultants and providing them with direction regarding project objectives, schedules, and budget.
  • Coordinating contractor activities with campus constituencies to minimize disruption to academic and other College programs and activities.
  • Making regular inspections of construction projects and attending regular and special project meetings to assess progress against project goals and schedules, and ensuring work is completed to contract specifications.
  • Serving as the action lead on campus planning efforts including area-specific and Campus Master Plan initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management.
  • Ten years of experience in facilities and campus planning, construction administration, project planning, or project management.
  • Previous experience with Sustainability programs including design, construction, and operations.
  • Experience with AIA contracts.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and complete Kenyon College Driver Training.
  • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a due diligence background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • LEED accredited professional
  • Experience with renewable energy systems planning
  • Current professional licensure as an engineer or architect
  • Current certification in project management
