Job summary

The Michaels Companies Inc. in Irving, Texas is seeking a Senior Specialist – External Communications to support the Communications team in building a positive brand through proactive public relations programs.

This hands‑on role ideates and executes seasonal, product, and trend‑driven media strategies across digital, print, broadcast, radio, and social media, coordinating with agency partners. The position requires strong media relations, storytelling, and people skills, plus travel as needed

Qualifications

• 5+ years of retail/agency public relations experience.
• Exceptional media relations skills with proven positive results.
• Experience in large, multi-store retail or service organization.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead communication plan development for key consumer initiatives and support corporate strategy.
• Oversee PR for store Grand Openings with agency partners and internal teams.
• Collaborate to implement annual strategic plan and coordinate consumer PR efforts.
• Identify opportunities to elevate Michaels in mainstream media using influencers, news, and events.
• Manage media relations, press materials, and newsroom content.
• Draft executive quotes, Q&A responses, interview briefs, and talking points.
