Job summary

Firestorm in San Diego is seeking a Trade Compliance Officer to own the Export Management and Compliance Program (EMCP) and align ITAR/EAR controls with engineering, product, and operations. You will lead licensing, classification, and screenings, manage external counsel, and guide internal teams on regulatory risk. The role reports to the General Counsel and requires 8+ years in U.S.

export compliance. This is a senior, onsite leadership position offering meaningful equity and a path to scale

Qualifications

• 8+ years of U.S. export compliance experience (ITAR and EAR).
• 3+ years leading a trade compliance program at a defense or aerospace manufacturer.
• Experience with USML, ECCN, CCL and related license processes.
• Experience securing DDTC authorizations (TAAs/MLAs) with foreign partners and BIS licenses.
• Experience building EMCP/ICP, including policy creation, risk assessment, internal audits, and training.
• Ability to translate regulation into design/deal decisions and influence senior leaders.

Responsibilities

• Own Export Management and Compliance Program end to end with policy, controls, and risk assessment.
• Lead licensing strategy and process through DSP-5, DSP-73, TAA, MLA; manage external counsel.
• Classify and screen items under USML/CCL and govern ITAR/EAR exemptions.
• Manage DDTC registration, contact with DDTC/BIS/OFAC/CBP; brief leadership and Board.
• Embed compliance into product lifecycle and partnering diligence; build and scale the team.
