Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Menlo Park, CA, seeks a Software Developer 3 to join the Engineering and Design controls team within the ECS division. You will develop Python and C/C++ applications and tools to enable experiment control and data acquisition.

You will collaborate with scientists and engineers to translate requirements into robust software, guide architecture decisions, and mentor junior engineers while advancing control-system reliability and software quality across

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field and eight years of relevant experience
• Strong proficiency in Python and Python GUI development (PyQt) including large-scale production codebases
• Experience with C/C++ development and maintenance
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows
• End-to-end ownership of tasks including project management, schedule and stakeholder management
• Experience working across cross-disciplinary teams or environments
• Excellent written and verbal communication for stakeholder alignment and design decisions

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and own high-level Python and C/C++ applications for experiment operations and data acquisition
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to translate requirements into reliable software solutions
• Troubleshoot complex issues from user interfaces to EPICS-based control systems
• Architect and mentor on software design, review code on GitHub, and promote best practices
• Define roadmaps and influence technical direction for long-term system reliability
