Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory's SSRL seeks a controls and protection systems engineer blending hardware, software, and beamline science to keep protection systems and accelerator operations running while developing motion control and safety systems for experimental equipment.

You will build HMIs, GUIs, and dashboards, document interlocks and I/O, and work with scientists and technicians to ensure safety and reliability of the storage ring and instrumentation, with occasional 24/7 support.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering or related field.
Experience troubleshooting complex systems in mixed-technology environments.
Experience documenting engineering changes and SOPs.

Responsibilities

Provide 24/7 on-call support for protection systems.
Troubleshoot, repair, and validate protection interlocks with motion control and instrumentation.
Develop test procedures and verify interlock logic during maintenanceShutdowns.
Design motion control systems and select components (stages, motors, encoders).
Manage instrumentation projects from concept to fabrication and installation.
Build and maintain HMIs, GUIs, and dashboards for protection systems and experiments.
Produce system documentation and maintain configuration records.
