Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks a Software Developer to design, implement, and maintain Python and C/C++ applications and automation scripts for experiment control and data acquisition.

You will collaborate with scientists and engineers, contribute to EPICS-based control systems, and help deliver robust software across Linux environments, with emphasis on code quality and collaborative development on GitHub.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences, Computer Engineering, CS, or closely related field.
• Five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python and PyQt GUI development.
• Experience with C/C++ development and maintenance.
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Experience owning tasks, project management, and stakeholder management.
• Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams and effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and own high-level Python and C/C++ applications and libraries essential for experiment operations, instrument control, and data acquisition.
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to translate experimental requirements into well-designed, reliable software solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues from GUI to EPICS-based control systems.
• Contribute to collaboration with team members and international groups on public/private software on GitHub.
• Develop and refine engineering processes and tools contributing to long-term system reliability.
