Job summary

Scout Motors in Novi, Michigan, seeks an experienced automotive design engineer to lead the release and validation of interior and electrical accessories from concept to production. You will collaborate across Scout and supplier teams to set design direction, develop specs, and maintain system requirements.

The role emphasizes hands-on CAD modeling, CAE validation, and rigorous testing planning and execution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or similar engineering degree from an ABET accredited university.
• 5-8 years of experience in automotive design and release of functional components and systems integration, including mechanical, electrical, and logical interface development and execution along all three phases of product development cycle.
• Familiarity with engineering disciplines: Six Sigma, 8 Disciplines for problem solving, DFMEA, DVP&R, Certification Testing, GD&T, DFM, Variation Analysis, APQP/PPAP Process, Design for Service, and Design for Manufacturing.
• Skilled in utilizing CATIA for designing and developing detailed parts.
• Analytical ability to solve problems that are unusual and complex, who is comfortable analyzing data to improve design and performance of a system.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Previous assembly plant launch experience.
• Experience with Functional Safety (ISO-26262).
• Familiarity with sheet metal structures and processes, metal stampings, injection molded components, foaming processes, and ‘cut and sew’.
• Familiarity with computer-aided engineering (CAE) or direct experience in this field.
• Understanding of Dimensional Management and GD&T.
• Experience with Electrical components and embedded systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, release, and validation of interior and electrical accessories for both on-road and off road applications from concept to production.
• Lead development of RFQ packages, tech reviews, and supplier selection.
• Develop product specification books, test plans, DVP&R, DFMEA, Control Plans, and Quality Assurance requirements.
• Lead Product Development Team(s) to collaborate across Scout internal functions and suppliers to set design direction and execute Scout accessories to market.
• Direct design and analysis groups to create 3D CAD models, complete 3D packaging, and validate with analytical models (FEA, CFD).
• Develop and maintain all component and subsystem requirements and specifications, including ICDs.
• Ensure on-time validation and adequate testing coverage for all requirements (component, system, and vehicle).
• Develop prototypes for virtual and physical verification testing, including field testing.
