Job summary

Thornton Construction seeks a seasoned Chief Estimator to lead the estimating department. You will oversee detailed cost estimates for diverse ground-up and renovation projects, and manage a team to ensure timely, accurate bid packages.

You will collaborate with project managers, owners, architects, and subs, driving cost efficiency and risk management while advancing preconstruction processes and industry best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
• 15+ years of estimating experience.
• At least 5 years as Preconstruction Director or Chief Estimator in GC environment with 8+ direct reports.
• Strong cost estimating and analysis across conceptual to construction phases.
• Experience with GMP and CMAR contracting models is advantageous.
• Proficiency with estimation software and MS Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the estimation process for multiple projects from concept through GMP/bid, ensuring accuracy and alignment with budgets.
• Lead and mentor the Preconstruction/Estimating staff; manage workloads and schedules.
• Prepare and analyze cost models and maintain a cost history database.
• Communicate with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to clarify requirements and resolve discrepancies.
• Stay current on industry trends and implement progressive practices in estimation.
