Job summary

Southland Industries in Columbus, OH is seeking an experienced estimator to prepare budgets and detailed estimates for medium to large projects. You will analyze drawings, perform material take-offs, and price units using specialized software, while presenting bids to project executives and managers.

You will mentor less-experienced estimators, stay current with industry practices, and collaborate with the lead/team to finalize bids for FEBs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience, including managing people
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
• Strong ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
• Strong knowledge of construction costs and principles
• Strong ability to perform mathematical calculations and apply fractions, percentages, ratios and prorations
• Ability to translate concepts into images; applies design principles
• Strong Excel and Word skills
• Strong knowledge of Quick Pen Auto Bid Mechanical and Sheet Metal Estimating software

Responsibilities

• Prepares preliminary budgets and estimates for projects.
• Performs red-lining of documents.
• Partners with Lead/Chief Estimator to finalize FEB and presents bids to executives/managers.
• Generates reports and interprets them for Project Review.
• Transfers information into final review format for FEB.
• Participates in client interview meetings to discuss project.
• Stays current with best practices and shares with team.
• Trains and mentors less-experienced estimators.
