Job summary

Southland Industries seeks an experienced Estimator to lead the estimating function for large, multi-trade projects. You will prepare preliminary budgets, conceptual and detailed estimates, and select materials and subcontractors for client presentations.

You will coordinate with multiple business units, delegate tasks, and ensure estimates align with project timelines. The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of estimating experience, strong Excel/Word skills, and a proven track record in managing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred, or trade school or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience
• Minimum 8 years’ relevant experience, including 3 years’ people and project management
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent analytical skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
• Highly proficient in interpreting plans and specifications
• Excellent Excel and Word skills
• Excellent knowledge of QuickPen AutoBid Mechanical and Sheet Metal Estimating software
• Ability to set deadlines and adhere to project schedules

Responsibilities

• Leads estimating function for varying projects that involve multiple business functions and organizational units
• Prepares preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates and detail estimates for larger, more complex projects
• Determines and assembles materials required for preparation of an estimate; acquires and pre-qualifies material and sub-contractor proposals
• Assists Chief Estimator with preparing estimate presentations, special studies, budget reports and estimating documents
• Develops realistic deliverables, timelines, and measures of success; allocates resources; communicates progress with stakeholders
• Delegates work to team; provides performance feedback and coaching
• Oversees and performs red-lining documents at all levels
• Negotiates with vendors as necessary
• Implements industry standards and keeps current with best practices
