Job summary

Irby Construction Company seeks a Senior Estimator to lead complex project estimates, mentor junior staff, and ensure accurate, competitive bids. You will develop cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services, and analyze risks to guide pricing decisions.

You will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and trade partners, review drawings and specs, and support handoff from estimating to project management post‑award.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of estimating experience in utility, infrastructure, or civil construction.
• Proficiency in estimation software and advanced Excel.
• Strong leadership, negotiation, and communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines.
• Experience in electrical estimating for data centers or mission-critical projects.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, Bluebeam, MS Project, and modern estimating software.
• Deep understanding of electrical systems, codes, and installation practices.

Responsibilities

• Review and validate estimates prepared by junior estimators.
• Develop and maintain estimation standards and procedures.
• Negotiate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
• Provide mentorship to Estimator I and II team members.
• Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
• Identify high-risk cost areas and suggest contingencies or mitigation strategies.
• Review RFPs, RFQs, drawings, and specifications to determine project scope.
• Validate subcontractor and vendor pricing for accuracy and scope alignment.
