Job summary

NBT Bank is seeking a Retirement Plan Documents Specialist to serve as the firm's subject matter expert for plan documents, interpreting ERISA and IRC requirements and applying them across the book of business.

The role designs and implements plan structures, leads design discussions with sponsors and advisors, and translates decisions into document and system requirements, providing guidance across teams.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of 401(k) and 403(b) plan design, document provisions, compliance.
• Ability to interpret ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and IRS/DOL guidance and apply to plan documents.
• Ability to lead plan design consultations with sponsors and advisors translating design objectives into compliant document and operational requirements.
• Ability to independently scope, plan, and drive firm-wide document projects to completion across departments and locations.

Responsibilities

• Apply plan provisions, ERISA, and IRC requirements across the firm’s book of business; resolve complex document issues.
• Design plan structures and discuss with sponsors/advisors; translate into document/system/administrative requirements.
• Monitor and implement regulatory changes (SECURE 2.0, restatement cycles) through completion.
• Develop and deliver technical training on plan documents and regulatory changes.
