Job summary

NBT Bank is seeking a senior subject matter expert in retirement plan documents to interpret ERISA and IRC requirements and to design and implement compliant plan structures across the firm’s book of business.

The role leads plan document initiatives, provides guidance and training, and collaborates with Compliance, Processing/Onboarding, and Strategic Relationships teams to ensure accuracy and regulatory alignment.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of 401(k) and 403(b) plan design, document provisions, compliance, and fiduciary topics.
• Ability to independently interpret ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and IRS/DOL guidance for plan documents.
• Lead plan design consultations with sponsors and advisors and translate design objectives into compliant requirements.
• Scope, plan and drive firm-wide document projects across departments and locations.
• Develop and deliver technical training on plan documents and regulatory changes.

Responsibilities

• Applies plan provisions and regulatory requirements across the firm’s book of business.
• Independently designs plan structures and discusses with sponsors/advisors.
• Monitors and implements legislative and regulatory changes affecting plan documents.
• Develops and delivers technical training on plan documents and changes.
• Evaluates and enhances plan document systems and workflows.
