Job summary

NBT Bank is seeking a senior-level Retirement Plan Document Specialist in Pennsylvania. You will be the subject matter expert applying ERISA and IRC requirements to design and restate plan documents across the firm’s client base.

This role leads firm-wide document initiatives and provides guidance to related teams. You will interpret regulatory guidance, ensure accuracy, and drive standards for plan operations and documentation, with opportunities to train staff and improve workflows.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of 401(k) and 403(b) plan design, document provisions, compliance, and fiduciary topics.
• Ability to independently interpret ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and IRS/DOL guidance for plan documents.
• Lead firm-wide document initiatives, including amendments and restatement cycles, across departments.
• Provide technical training and guidance to staff of varying experience levels.

Responsibilities

• Apply plan provisions, ERISA, and IRC requirements across the firm’s book of business and resolve complex document issues.
• Design plan structures with sponsors/advisors and hand off to implement across systems and operations.
• Monitor regulatory changes (SECURE 2.0, restatement cycles) and lead firm-wide amendment projects.
• Develop and deliver technical training on plan documents and regulatory updates.
• Evaluate and enhance document systems and workflows for accuracy and scalability.
