Job summary

City of Tuscaloosa seeks a skilled equipment operator to support construction, maintenance, and repair of city roads, water and sewer systems, and related facilities. You will operate and maintain a variety of medium to heavy machinery and ensure safety and compliance with CDL requirements.

The position requires at least a high school diploma or GED, one year of relevant experience, and the ability to pass drug screening.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of experience operating medium to heavy equipment.
• Must possess Alabama CDL Class A or B, depending on position, and maintain it.
• Position is safety-sensitive and subject to drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a range of heavy equipment.
• Inspect equipment before use and perform routine maintenance.
• Perform manual tasks related to construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, water, sewer, and buildings.
• Shovel, haul, and remove debris; sweep streets and manage traffic controls.
• Flag traffic and set up signage; communicate with staff and the public.
• Comply with safety policies and pass pre-employment/random drug screens.
