Job summary

The City of Tuscaloosa seeks a maintenance worker to operate light equipment and perform manual tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of city grounds, roads, and drainage systems. Duties include operating a squad and other city vehicles, performing pre-use inspections, and assisting with repairs and debris removal.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED (preferred), at least six months in light equipment operation, and obtaining a Class B CDL within 12 months.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience in light equipment operation and maintenance or related field.
• Must obtain Alabama CDL, Class B within 12 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains light equipment and machinery used in city maintenance and repair.
• Inspects equipment before use and performs routine maintenance and repairs.
• Inspects job sites for hazards prior to operating equipment.
• Performs manual labor related to road, drainage, and grounds maintenance.
• Cleans catch basins/ditches, clears right-of-ways, and handles debris."
• Spreads chemicals, mows, trims vegetation, and plants shrubs, trees and grass.
• Places and retrieves signage, loads/unloads supplies, and flags traffic.
• Performs other related duties as required.
