Job summary

The City of Hammond is seeking an Equipment Operator CDL to safely operate and maintain a variety of city hauling, construction, and maintenance equipment on streets and city properties.

Under supervision, you will fuel, perform light repairs, assist mechanics, and support road repair and upkeep tasks while complying with safety rules and instructions.

Requires a Louisiana driver's license and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months of employment.

Qualifications

• Ability to safely operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on medium equipment.
• Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
• Ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather.

Responsibilities

• Operates equipment such as boom truck, street sweeper, street patching machine, dump truck, tractor, and related equipment.
• Checks and fuels vehicles and perform light mechanical adjustments.
• Assists mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment.
• May distribute asphalt using specialized equipment, load and unload trucks.
• Performs various manual tasks involved in repairing roads and city properties.
• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Working Title: Equipment Operator CDL

Job Summary:

Under immediate supervision performs semi-skilled work in operating a limited variety of hauling, construction, and maintenance equipment in the maintenance of City roads, right of ways, and all other city properties.

Reports To: Assistant Director of Streets

Supervises: N/A

• Operates any of the following types of equipment: boom truck, street sweeper, street patching machine, dump truck, tractor, and related equipment, used to maintain and repair right of ways and beautify City property.
• Checks and fuels vehicles and perform light mechanical adjustments.
• Assists mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment.
• May distribute asphalt using specialized equipment, load and unload trucks.
• Performs various manual tasks involved in repairing roads and all other city properties.
• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Acceptable Training and Experiences

• High school diploma or GED and two (2) years' experience operating related equipment.

Certificates and/or Licenses:

Must possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver's License and must have the ability to obtain a Class (A) Commercial Driver's License within the first (6) months of employment.
