Job summary

Silgan Closures in Waukegan, IL is seeking a Senior Equipment Assembler to build and assemble machine parts from blueprints, ensure subassembly readiness, and work with an engineering team to verify specs. This position is a first shift, non-union shop with opportunities for advancement.

Ideal candidates have mechanical experience, can read blueprints, use precision measuring tools, and perform welding (MIG/TIG/ARC). Strong communication in English and safety focus are required.

Qualifications

• Previous mechanical experience such as production mechanic, auto mechanic-, machine shop experience or hands-on machine shop classes.
• Must have ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometer, vernier, calipers, etc.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be able to read and write in English.
• Must have good communications skills.
• Must pass company administered mechanical test.
• Experience with all types of hand tools, drill press, lathe, mill, floor standing saw and powered lift truck.
• Ability to perform all types of welding: MIG, TIG, ARC, Spot, Braise; specializing in stainless steel.

Responsibilities

• Assembles machine parts at close tolerance from blueprint instructions.
• Ensures that all parts are available for subassembly by checking parts in boxes against bill of materials.
• Works with engineering department to determine that blueprints or spec sheets are correct.
• Gathers hardware including nuts, bolts and screws for assembly.
• Drills or saws parts when necessary.
• Assists in moving machinery using a chain hoist, electric lift truck or hand dolly truck.
