Job summary

Rocket Lab Optical Systems in Tucson, AZ seeks a Senior Algorithm Engineer II to develop, validate, and deploy advanced EO/IR image-processing algorithms for space payloads. Ideal candidates have 8+ years (or equivalent), strong Python skills, and a proven record in EO/IR image processing and computer vision. U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience, Master's with 5+ years, or Ph.D. with 2+ years in a technical discipline with EO/IR experience.
• Strong experience designing, implementing, testing, and optimizing image processing and computer vision algorithms for EO/IR sensors.
• Experience in areas like image stabilization, multi-view modeling, pose reconstruction, object detection and tracking.
• Proficiency in Python with strong programming skills and in image-system modeling and simulation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to present results to diverse audiences; U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and deploy advanced EO/IR image-processing algorithms for space payloads.
• Create modeling/simulation frameworks to generate mission imagery for ML training and validation.
• Apply deep learning approaches to detect and track objects in EO/IR data.
• Collaborate with software/firmware teams to port algorithms to real-time implementations.
• Analyze large EO/IR datasets and report performance to stakeholders.
• Maintain and improve deployed algorithms and support ongoing system reliability.
• Attend technical meetings and represent the team in program development.
• Travel or work off-site as needed.
