Job summary

Rocket Lab Optical Systems, based in Chantilly, VA, seeks a Senior Algorithm Engineer II to develop, validate, and deploy advanced EO/IR image-processing algorithms for space payloads. You will work with ML, optical design, and space vehicle teams to deliver real-time processing capabilities and robust algorithm performance.

The role requires 8+ years of related experience and a strong background in image processing for EO/IR sensors, with proficiency in Python and C/C++.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's level degree with relevant experience in image processing or EO/IR systems.
• Strong experience designing, implementing, testing, and optimizing image processing algorithms for EO/IR sensors.
• Proficiency in Python with strong programming skills.
• Experience in image-system modeling and simulation.
• Strong communication skills and ability to present results to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and deploy EO/IR image-processing chains for space payloads.
• Develop modeling/simulation frameworks for mission imagery.
• Synthesize mission imagery to support ML training and validation.
• Apply CV/ML techniques to detect and track low-SNR objects in EO/IR imagery.
• Collaborate with software/firmware teams to deploy real-time processing.
