Job summary

Rocket Lab Optical Systems seeks a Senior Algorithm Engineer II to design, validate, and deploy advanced EO/IR image-processing algorithms for space payloads. You will collaborate across machine learning, optical design, and space vehicle modeling teams to deliver high-performance, real-time solutions.

The role requires strong Python and C/C++ proficiency, experience in computer vision, and the ability to work with government customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with 8+ years of experience, Master’s with 5+ years, or Ph.D. with 2+ years in physics, optical sciences, CS, math, engineering, or related field with EO/IR experience.
• Strong experience designing, implementing, testing, and optimizing EO/IR image-processing algorithms.
• Broad computer vision experience (detection, tracking, pose reconstruction, registration).

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and deploy EO/IR image-processing algorithms for space payloads.
• Collaborate with ML, optical design, and space vehicle teams on simulations and prototypes.
• Analyze large EO/IR datasets and present results to stakeholders.
• Transition complex algorithms into real-time implementations with hardware teams.
