Job summary

Rocket Lab Optical Systems seeks a Principal Algorithm Engineer in Tucson, AZ to develop, validate, and deploy advanced EO/IR image-processing algorithms for space payloads. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams in ML, optical design, and simulation while optimizing real-time performance for mission-critical sensing systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience in a technical discipline with demonstrated image processing or EO/IR systems.
Master's degree with 8+ years of experience in a related field.
Ph.D. with 5+ years of experience in physics, optical sciences, or related field.

Responsibilities

Develop, validate, and deploy advanced EO/IR image-processing algorithms for space payloads.
Collaborate with ML, optical design, and simulation teams to create modeling frameworks.
Apply deep learning approaches to detect and track objects in EO/IR imagery.
Transition algorithms into real-time implementations with software/firmware teams.
Analyze large EO/IR datasets to evaluate algorithm performance and reliability.
