Job summary

COWI in North America seeks an experienced Leading Environmental Specialist to support major infrastructure projects across the region. You will guide environmental review, permitting, and reporting while coordinating with agencies and clients.

Travel to project sites and inter-department collaboration are essential. We expect a strong background in environmental planning, regulation, and sustainability, plus the ability to communicate complex topics to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Hold Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Environmental Science or natural sciences with 12–15 years of related experience.
• Knowledge of NYC natural resource and land use regulations and environmental law.
• Experience with local/regional agencies (NYCDEP, DEC, MTA, USACE).
• Knowledge of infrastructure environmental permitting and monitoring requirements.
• Familiar with Sustainable Infrastructure principles and ISI Envision accreditation.
• Willingness to travel and engage with regulatory/ accreditation agencies.

Responsibilities

• Be a key contributor in large infrastructure project environmental management including planning, permitting, construction operations, and maintenance.
• Support solving engineering problems while maintaining environmental standards for present and future impact.
• Conduct design reviews, evaluate environmental analyses, and review environmental reports and planning chapters.
• Perform site inspections and prepare technical specifications and accreditation documents.
• Research nature-based design options and work with design teams to identify environmental impacts and opportunities.
• Report to agencies and lead client or team meetings.
