Job description

The Senior Environmental Analyst serves as a key environmental compliance resource for AES Eagle Valley Generating Station. This role is responsible for supporting and managing environmental compliance activities to ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, local, and corporate environmental requirements.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide environmental guidance, support permitting and reporting activities, track regulatory obligations, analyze environmental data, assist with audits and inspections, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

This role offers meaningful opportunities to expand technical expertise, interact with regulatory agencies and subject-matter experts, and contribute to AES's environmental and sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, permit conditions, corporate environmental requirements, and site-specific obligations at AES Eagle Valley generating stations.
• Collect, compile, verify, manage, and analyze environmental data to prepare, review, submit, and maintain accurate environmental compliance and regulatory reports, permits, inspections, and program documentation, ensuring timely completion of all agency and corporate reporting requirements.
• Ensure required inspections, tests, records, reports, submittals, and environmental compliance deliverables are completed in a timely manner.
• Manage and maintain the AES Environmental Management System for the assigned generating station, including development and tracking of site-specific environmental objectives, environmental audit activities, and corrective action closure.
• Provide environmental compliance guidance, coaching, and training to Operations, Maintenance, leadership, contractors, and other applicable stakeholder groups to improve environmental awareness and ensure understanding of site compliance requirements.
• Review operational and environmental data to identify potential permit deviations, compliance trends, deficiencies, excursions, or regulatory concerns, and communicate issues promptly to appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
• Report, support, and provide management direction for correction, mitigation, and prevention of environmental deficiencies, excursions, regulatory violations, and audit findings.
• Support routine permitting efforts and coordinate with Environmental Affairs subject matter experts on relevant rulemaking, regulatory changes, permit issues, comment development, and impact evaluations, as requested.
• Provide change management support for new or changing environmental priorities, methodologies, policies, rules, and regulations affecting environmental compliance obligations at the assigned generating stations.
• Support environmental audits, lead or assist with internal auditing activities, and ensure findings and corrective action plans are addressed in a timely manner.
• Develop, track, and support site-specific environmental budgets, including proactive communication of budget deviations and integration of environmental requirements into business planning.
• Implement and maintain environmental compliance processes, operating procedures, data management practices, and continuous improvement initiatives that support consistent environmental program execution across facilities.
• Participate in environmental inspections, EHS walks, sustainability opportunities, environmental awareness initiatives, and environmental performance activities that support AES environmental goals and objectives.
• Work collaboratively with plant personnel to respond to environmental questions, concerns, permit requirements, regulatory issues, inspections, data requests, and compliance needs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• 2+ years of environmental compliance experience in industrial, manufacturing, utility, energy, or similarly regulated environments.
• Working knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements applicable to industrial operations.
• Experience supporting one or more of the following areas: Air quality compliance and permitting, Water compliance and permitting, Waste management, Environmental reporting and monitoring, and Multi-media environmental compliance programs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to review and interpret environmental data.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to occasionally support business needs outside standard working hours during environmental events, emergencies, or operational requirements.
• Ability to travel occasionally to other AES locations as needed.
• Valid driver's license or ability to satisfy business travel requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates may bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Utility, power generation, manufacturing, chemical processing, or other highly regulated industries.
• Clean Air Act compliance, Title V permitting, emissions reporting, or Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
• NPDES permitting, stormwater compliance, wastewater management, water sampling, inspections, or reporting programs.
• Spill prevention and response programs, SPCC plans, PCB management, hazardous waste compliance, DOT regulations, asbestos programs, or environmental remediation.
• Environmental audit programs, corrective action systems, compliance management systems, environmental training programs, or environmental performance management.
• Experience interacting with environmental regulatory agencies.
• Wastewater Treatment Operator License or similar environmental certification.
