Job summary

AES Corporation, a leading US-based energy company, invites a Senior Specialist, Environmental to join AES Indiana's transmission and distribution operations. You will support environmental compliance, reporting, and program management across facilities, including service centers and substations, helping ensure safe, reliable energy delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Natural Sciences, or related field.
• Experience supporting EHS programs in industrial, utility, manufacturing, processing, energy, or related environments.
• Knowledge of environmental compliance, reporting, permitting, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Experience working with environmental data, inspections, audits, or compliance programs.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Manage environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance activities for AES Indiana's transmission and distribution operations, including service centers, substations, and other facilities.
• Monitor regulatory developments and implement changes necessary to maintain environmental compliance.
• Prepare, review, and submit environmental reports and compliance documentation, including Hazardous Waste, Tier II, PCB, and OSHA-related reporting.
• Conduct facility inspections and assessments, including SPCC and waste management inspections.
• Maintain and support environmental programs, plans, and procedures such as Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Waste Management Programs.
• Coordinate responses to environmental incidents, spills, and reportable events, working with internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
• Deliver training, guidance, and support to employees on environmental compliance and EHS best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for operating improvements and environmental risk reduction.

As a Senior Specialist, Environmental, you will play a critical role in supporting environmental compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across AES’s transmission and distribution operations. This position offers the opportunity to work with experienced professionals, engage with regulatory agencies, contribute to meaningful environmental initiatives, and grow your expertise within a leading energy company.

What You’ll Do In this role, you will:

• Manage environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance activities for AES Indiana's transmission and distribution operations, including service centers, substations, and other facilities.
• Monitor regulatory developments and implement changes necessary to maintain environmental compliance.
• Prepare, review, and submit environmental reports and compliance documentation, including Hazardous Waste, Tier II, PCB, and OSHA-related reporting.
• Conduct facility inspections and assessments, including SPCC and waste management inspections.
• Maintain and support environmental programs, plans, and procedures such as: Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Waste Management Programs Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements, including Air, Class V, Asbestos, Underground Storage Tanks (UST), and related programs.
• Coordinate responses to environmental incidents, spills, and reportable events, working closely with internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
• Deliver training, guidance, and support to employees on environmental compliance and EHS best practices.
• Support incident investigations and corrective action activities to promote a strong culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for operational improvements and environmental risk reduction.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Natural Sciences, or a related field.
• Experience supporting environmental, health, and safety programs within industrial, utility, manufacturing, processing, energy, or related environments.
• Knowledge of environmental compliance, reporting, permitting, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Experience working with environmental data, inspections, audits, or compliance programs.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in electric utility, transmission and distribution, power delivery, or energy-related operations.
• Experience with environmental permitting and multi-media environmental compliance programs.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and environmental reporting requirements.
• Experience communicating and collaborating with regulatory agencies.
• Familiarity with: Spill response and remediation SPCC compliance DOT regulations PCB management and disposal Waste characterization and sampling Incident investigations Professional certifications or environmental licenses are a plus.
