Job summary

West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Land Restoration, Abandoned Mine Lands Program / Construction, is seeking an Environmental Resources Specialist to oversee grant-funded reclamation projects and BIL-related work from planning through construction. The role entails managing databases, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and providing technical support across projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • OR Substitution: 1 year of experience for every 30 semester hours of training.
  • AND Four years of full-time or equivalent paid experience in environmental resources, protection, or related to environmental impact.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and oversee daily reclamation construction activities for grant-funded projects, ensuring compliance with plans, specs, contracts, and standards.
  • Manage BIL-funded reclamation projects from planning to construction; coordinate teams and oversee consultant contracts.
  • Develop, maintain AMLNET and construction management databases; coordinate with programmers to improve systems and reporting.
  • Evaluate reclamation practices and construction specifications; conduct field investigations and historical research; monitor performance.
  • Maintain inventory and evaluate passive water treatment systems; perform field inspections and sampling.
  • Coordinate development and implementation of Intergovernmental Transfer projects with local governments and partners.
  • Develop and support training programs for WVAML&R inspectors and consultant personnel.
