Senior Environmental Project Manager (Industrial Hygiene)
Job Summary
Responsible for providing companywide senior-level environmental project management, technical expertise, and final (QA/QC) review on projects related to hazardous building material inspections (asbestos, lead, mold, and indoor air quality). This position also involves identifying and developing business opportunities related to Building Sciences services, scoping projects, and developing staff. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Building Sciences Principal.
Essential Job Functions
- Oversee professional-level technical and administrative support staff to achieve objectives and deadlines.
- Provide technical expertise on projects.
- Support program development, business development, and office staff in scoping and budgeting projects, preparing proposals, and providing technical expertise.
- Manage projects and provide final review of all project submittals and correspondence.
- Identify work opportunities with existing and potential clients.
- Administer project financial performance, budgeting, and manage change orders.
- Select subcontractors, issue purchase orders, and approve invoices.
- Oversee project invoice approval, maintain project files, and conduct performance reviews.
- Evaluate project needs and delegate tasks effectively.
- Train and mentor technical staff.
- Act as liaison between clients and regulatory agencies.
- Interpret regulations and develop compliance strategies.
- Prepare project descriptions, participate in technical presentations, and update professional resumes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of environmental and health & safety regulations, including mold, asbestos, and lead.
- Recognize hazards and safety measures inherent to environmental work.
- Understand and apply environmental regulations and guidance.
- Organize and manage multiple projects with various clients.
- Create and bid project scopes effectively.
- Interpret complex technical, environmental data, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain strong client relationships.
Job Specifications
- Education: B.S. in environmental science, industrial hygiene, environmental health science, or chemistry.
- Experience: 7+ years in environmental industrial hygiene consulting, including 2 years in management and business development; minimum 5 years of field sampling hazardous materials.
- Certifications: Current licensure (asbestos, lead), OSHA Hazwoper 40-Hour, and/or General Industry 10 or 30 Hour Certifications preferred.
- Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Additional Requirements: Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, ability to operate vehicles safely, and medical clearance. Travel required to various client locations, including day trips and potential extended travel.
Job Context
60-75% office work in controlled environments, 25-40% travel to client sites, which may involve hazardous environments and extended hours.
