Job summary

Starr Insurance is seeking an Environmental Loss Control Consultant to evaluate environmental risks, perform site inspections, and provide actionable recommendations to insureds and underwriting teams to minimize losses and support risk selection. The role involves reporting, training, and collaborating with underwriting, claims, and engineering.

A bachelor’s degree and 10+ years in the field are preferred, with willingness to travel regionally or nationally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in environmental loss control, risk consulting or EHS roles (insurance experience preferred).
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and pollution liability.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel regionally or nationally.

Responsibilities

• Perform environmental loss control surveys and site assessments for policyholders.
• Identify hazards, exposures, and regulatory issues (chemical storage, disposal, air, hazardous materials).
• Prepare reports with loss mitigation and risk improvement guidance after field inspections.
• Collaborate with underwriting, claims, and engineering to inform risk selection and pricing.
• Provide technical guidance on environmental risk management and regulatory obligations.
• Develop and deliver training materials on environmental risk topics.
• Monitor regulatory changes to keep loss controls current.
• Assist in claims investigations involving environmental losses and resolutions.
• Build relationships with clients and serve as a trusted environmental loss-control resource.
