Job summary

Defense Threat Reduction Agency is seeking an Environmental Engineer (GS-13) to lead NEPA compliance, environmental assessments, and regulatory programs at Kirtland AFB, NM. The role involves coordinating with DoD, DOE, EPA, and state agencies to ensure regulatory alignment and safe operations.

The incumbent will design and manage compliance programs for hazardous, radioactive, and industrial wastes, supervise audits, and mentor personnel across test environments, ensuring performance and safety.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent in NEPA compliance.
• Directs preparation and review of EAs/EISs for major projects and infrastructure.
• Interagency coordination to ensure regulatory compliance and public involvement.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME on environmental compliance and NEPA processes.
• Liaise with DoW, DTRA, DOE, EPA and state authorities; lead audits and response actions.
• Plan and implement programs for handling hazardous and radioactive wastes.
• Oversee environmental permitting, remediation, and site closures.
• Develop training programs to promote regulatory compliance and safety.
• Direct lifecycle management of compliance initiatives across test regions.
