Job summary

Halff Associates, Inc. in San Antonio, TX, seeks a Chemist or Senior Chemist to lead project chemistry, data validation, QA/QC, and regulatory compliance for federal programs.

This role covers the full lifecycle from planning to final validation packages, with opportunity for career growth and ownership in the firm. You will work with DoD QSM standards, EPA SW-846 methods, and PFAS analyses, mentoring staff and coordinating with labs to ensure data quality for risk assessments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in environmental chemistry, lab testing, and/or data validation.
• For Senior Chemist, at least 12 years with leadership on federal remediation projects.
• Proven history drafting UFP-QAPPs and executing Stage 2A/2B and Stage 4 validation.
• Strong proficiency with DoD QSM standards, EPA SW-846 methods, and emerging contaminants.
• Hands-on lab bench experience with GC/MS and ICP-MS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review Level II and IV data validation packages across matrices using NFG and DoD criteria.
• Draft, revise, and implement QAPPs using the UFP-QAPP framework.
• Enforce compliance with DoD QSM requirements for laboratories and projects.
• Support QA/QC for Stage 2A/2B and Stage 4 data validation.
• Evaluate data qualifiers for EDDs, including ERPIMS and regional databases.
• Coordinate with laboratories to resolve discrepancies and ensure data suitability for risk assessments.
• Prepare DVRs, DUSRs, and technical memoranda defending data usability decisions.
• Senior mentorship: cross-review data packages, manage juniors, lead chemistry scope on proposals.
