Job summary

North is seeking an Enterprise Merchant Underwriter for Portfolio Management to support high-exposure merchant relationships across remote operations in the Payments industry. The role emphasizes advanced financial analysis, risk-based due diligence, and cross-functional collaboration with sales partners and internal teams.

The ideal candidate has several years in underwriting and financial analysis, with strong communication and relationship-management skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting (or equivalent combination of education and work experience).
• Minimum 2 years of financial analysis experience in the payments industry or similar financial services field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a commercial underwriting environment or analyzing financial data.
• Minimum 2 years of sales relationship management experience highly preferred.
• Excellent conflict resolution skills and emotional intelligence for managing relationships with merchants, staff and partners.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and handle multiple relationships with merchants and partners.
• Strong communication skills across all levels of staff, management, vendors, and merchants.

Responsibilities

• Conduct periodic credit reviews within an assigned portfolio and quantify results with narratives based on processing models, metrics, and detailed financial analysis.
• Prepare Credit Risk Assessments with detailed recommendations and risk mitigation strategies.
• Analyze high exposure merchants with varying risk dependencies and credit quality across business types and environments.
• Implement collateral strategies to minimize losses (reserves, letters of credit, funding holds).
• Communicate effectively with merchants, sales partners, internal departments, and management to obtain necessary financial information.
• Provide Approval Authority support for sign-off requests within your authority.
• Train and coach underwriting team members.
• Ensure service level agreements are met.
• Monitor the phone queue and engage with sales partners and merchants.
• Review and update department policies based on industry trends.
• Collaborate with ERM colleagues for enhanced due diligence and historical data.
