Job summary

Avalara, Inc. is seeking a Senior Implementation Consultant within Professional Services to lead the delivery of large, complex enterprise implementations of Avalara’s Excise platforms, including AvaTax for Energy and Returns for Tobacco.

You will own technical architecture and tax determination strategy across multi-jurisdiction environments for energy distributors and terminal operators. You will mentor consultants, drive practice-wide standards, and partner with external implementation

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive experience in enterprise software implementation, tax technology consulting, systems integration, or technical solution delivery.
• The candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or equivalent.
• In-depth subject matter expertise in excise/fuel and taxation, oil & gas supply chains, terminal operations, or indirect tax systems.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills in APIs, SQL/database queries, data transformation pipelines, and ERP data structures.
• Proven ability to influence executive-level stakeholders (C-level, Tax Directors, Enterprise Architects) and lead cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end technical delivery of complex, multi-entity enterprise implementations involving multi-entity structures and cross-border movements.
• Architect custom calculation logic and complex mappings across high-volume datasets.
• Facilitate design workshops with tax directors, IT leadership, and systems integrators.
• Lead SIT/UAT strategy, troubleshoot race conditions and data schema discrepancies.
• Mentor consultants and provide technical governance across the team.
