Job summary

NC Department of Transportation’s Division 10 Monroe Resident Engineer’s office seeks an Engineering Technician III to support engineers in highway construction inspection. You will monitor contractor operations and review test reports as part of project oversight.

The role includes contract administration duties, daily diaries, and ensuring compliance with erosion, stormwater, and DBE requirements. Outdoor work, occasional nights/weekends, and software proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
Ability to plan, develop, schedule, track, and complete projects with limited supervision.
Customer service experience resolving problems with engineering explanations.
Team environment experience completing assignments.
Proficiency with drafting and office software.

Responsibilities

Monitor contractor daily operations and review test reports for conformance to specs.
Perform contract administration duties: pay records, material reports, payroll review, diaries, as-constructed plans and monthly quantity verification.
Resolve daily constructability issues to mitigate project delays and ensure DBE compliance.
Ensure erosion & stormwater control and permit compliance.
Coordinate work with contractors, subcontractors, utility owners and property owners.
Assist in management and training of lower-level technicians (Department and CEI personnel).
Work safely outdoors; capable of lifting 50 lb and handling rugged terrain; may require nights/weekends.
Proficiency with motor vehicle operation; HiCAMS/SharePoint experience preferred.
