Job summary

North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is seeking an Engineering Technician II to serve as a field inspector for roadway and bridge construction projects in Jackson County, NC. You will inspect erosion control, traffic control measures, review NPDES documentation, sample and test materials, and determine contract pay quantities while maintaining thorough project records.

The role requires outdoor work in varied weather, travel to multiple sites, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of NCDOT highway and bridge construction, ability to read plans and specifications, and experience maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Inspect roadway and bridge construction for compliance with plans, contract provisions, and NCDOT standards.
• Take field measurements and determine pay quantities; prepare field notes, diaries, and reports.
• Maintain accurate project records using computers/iPads; document materials received and monthly estimates.
• Coordinate with contractors, technicians, and engineers; manage multiple inspection assignments and deadlines.
