Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) seeks a Hardware Engineering Technician in our research and development division to test proto units and boards, with opportunities to troubleshoot to component level.

You will perform basic hardware tests, build prototypes, assist engineers, and document results. A two-year electronics associate degree and solid knowledge of analog/digital electronics are required.

Qualifications

  • Two-year associate degree in electronic technology or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of analog and digital electronics and circuits.
  • Experience with modern test equipment and prototyping.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to learn new skills and work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to engineering staff.

Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a Hardware Engineering Technician working in our research and development division. This technician will be testing proto units and boards with a chance to perform investigative troubleshooting to the component level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform basic electronic hardware tests in accordance with defined engineering procedures or guidelines under the direction of engineers or more experienced technicians.
  • Build engineering prototypes under the direction of an electrical engineer or experienced technician. Document prototype construction and maintain pertinent engineering records.
  • Assist engineers in the evaluation of new electronic components.
  • Assemble test fixtures, load banks, and other components common to product development.
  • Provide support to engineering staff as needed.
  • Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) of modest complexity under the direction of engineers or more experienced technicians.
  • Understand. Create. Simplify.

Required Qualifications
  • Two-year electronic technology or related associate degree
  • Working knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits
  • Familiarity with modern test equipment
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Troubleshooting to the component level
  • Familiarity with the Python language and scripting
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems
  • Working knowledge of IT equipment (Ethernet switches, TCP/IP address setup)
  • Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems

Pay Range Information: $40.50 - $59.50 per hour. Our salary ranges are determined by job and responsibility. We base our starting pay offer and title on job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
