The County of Riverside's Transportation Department has an opportunity for a Senior Engineering Technician in Riverside supporting the Project Development team.
A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.
The Senior Engineering Technician (SET) will perform complex civil engineering or land surveying work of a specialized nature, including planning, grading and drainage design, computer graphics, traffic, materials testing, environmental monitoring, hydrology, surveying, permits, or construction inspection activities. Additionally, the SET will research, coordinate takeoffs and estimating, and handle drafting required for advertising Plans, Specifications, and Estimate (PS&E) packages.
Experience using Caltrans Standard Plans and Specifications, APWA "Greenbook" Standards, ADA Standards, and AASHTO Guidelines is highly desired. Candidates with experience in Bentley MicroStation V8i and Bluebeam are also preferred. Experience in the design, review, and/or construction of Public Works projects is advantageous.
Advancement to the Principal Engineering Technician level is through a competitive selection process via an open recruitment.
The Transportation Department is responsible for planning, designing, funding, building, operating, and maintaining roads, bridges, and transportation facilities within the county.
Option I: Four years of sub-professional civil engineering experience, with at least one year at a level equivalent to County of Riverside Engineering Technician II. College courses in relevant subjects may substitute for experience.
Option II: Bachelor’s degree in surveying engineering or civil engineering, plus one year of relevant experience.
Option III: Valid Engineer-in-Training or Land Surveyor-in-Training certification, with two years of experience.
Knowledge of engineering principles, construction materials and methods, drafting, hydrologic devices, land surveying, and related procedures. Ability to perform complex mathematical computations, interpret engineering documents, test construction materials, conduct surveys, coordinate mapping activities, and supervise others.
License: Valid California Driver’s License required.
