Job summary

Good co India is seeking a Senior Software Engineering leader to drive strategy, architecture, and delivery of scalable platforms in a cloud-first environment. You will mentor multiple engineering teams, align with product, design, data, and security, and own roadmaps, quality, and release processes.

You will collaborate across business units to translate objectives into technical plans, manage debt and risks, and foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of software engineering experience with leadership of teams or large programs.
  • Proven experience managing engineers, tech leads, or managers in product-driven orgs.
  • Hands-on system design, distributed systems, and scalable architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of modern tech such as Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Experience with microservices, APIs, cloud platforms, containers, and CI/CD.
  • Knowledge of AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum, release management, and quality engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Manage technical debt, risks, and scaling constraints.
  • Build and structure the engineering org with hiring, mentoring, and succession plans.
  • Communicate strategy, risks, and progress to senior leadership.
  • Foster ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage multiple software engineering teams responsible for designing, developing, and operating scalable products and services.
  • Define engineering strategy, technical direction, architecture standards, and long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Translate business and product objectives into clear engineering plans, priorities, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, Security, SRE, and other cross-functional teams to deliver business outcomes.
  • Own engineering delivery, ensuring high standards for quality, reliability, security, scalability, and performance.
  • Drive architecture and system-design decisions for distributed, cloud-native, and high-scale applications.
  • Establish and improve engineering processes, development methodologies, coding standards, testing practices, and release processes.
  • Identify and address technical debt, architectural risks, scalability constraints, and operational challenges.
  • Build a strong engineering organization through hiring, team structure, workforce planning, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Manage performance, career development, feedback, and growth of engineering managers and senior engineers.
  • Establish engineering metrics and use data to monitor productivity, quality, reliability, delivery, and operational performance.
  • Lead major technical initiatives, platform modernization, cloud adoption, migrations, and engineering transformation programs.
  • Ensure effective incident management, root-cause analysis, reliability improvements, and continuous operational excellence.
  • Manage engineering budgets, resources, vendors, and technology investments where applicable.
  • Communicate technical strategy, risks, dependencies, progress, and business impact to senior leadership.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, innovation, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement.

Preferred Candidate Profile
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience leading engineering teams or large technical initiatives.
  • Proven experience managing engineers, technical leads, or engineering managers in a product or technology-driven organization.
  • Strong software engineering background with hands-on understanding of system design, architecture, distributed systems, and scalable applications.
  • Strong knowledge of modern technologies such as Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, or equivalent programming languages.
  • Experience with microservices, APIs, databases, messaging systems, cloud platforms, and containerized environments.
  • Strong understanding of AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, DevOps, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Experience designing and operating highly available, scalable, secure, and reliable production systems.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, Agile/Scrum, engineering processes, testing, release management, and quality practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to create technical roadmaps and translate business requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
  • Experience managing technical debt, architecture evolution, engineering risks, and cross-team dependencies.
  • Strong people-management skills, including hiring, performance management, mentoring, career development, and team building.
  • Experience partnering with Product and business leadership to prioritize initiatives and balance technical and business requirements.
  • Strong project and program-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder-management, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong data-driven approach to engineering metrics, operational performance, and decision-making.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline; M.Tech/MS/MCA/MBA is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and technical levels and influence senior engineering and business stakeholders.
