Job summary

Uber's Cadence team seeks a Sr Engineering Manager to lead a backend engineering group building a scalable, low-latency, multi-tenant workflow engine and to grow engineering leadership within an open source community.

You will guide architecture, drive technical strategy, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product partners and the Cadence community to deliver cutting-edge distributed technology.

Qualifications

• Experience leading and developing software engineering organizations, including experience managing engineering managers.
• Strong background building backend infrastructure and distributed systems.
• Experience with highly scalable, high throughput, low latency, multi tenant systems.
• Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals and system design.
• Experience with multiple programming languages (Go, Java, C++).
• Strong technical leadership skills to guide architectural decisions and strategy.
• Excellent communication with engineers, product partners, and leaders.
• Experience managing complex, multi-team projects and delivering high quality software.
• BS degree in CS or related field; Masters/PhD preferred.
• 10+ years of relevant software engineering experience, including managing teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow an engineering organization responsible for building and operating Cadence workflow engine.
• Drive execution of multiple technical projects from strategy through delivery.
• Partner with engineering leaders to define architecture and engineering best practices.
• Develop engineering managers and senior engineers through coaching and career growth.
• Contribute to an open source project used by many major companies.
• Improve onboarding, observability, reliability, and operability for Cadence.
• Collaborate with open source community, understand user needs, shape Cadence's future.
• Define and improve engineering processes used internally and across the community.
• Build partnerships across engineering, product, and other teams to drive alignment.
• Establish and communicate a long-term technical and organizational strategy.
