Job summary

Legend Biotech seeks a Senior/Principal Engineer, Vector Downstream to design, optimize, and scale purification for LVV. Based in Somerset, NJ, you will drive models and analytics to improve downstream processes from bench to GMP manufacturing.

You will apply mass transfer and thermodynamics, lead data-driven improvements, and collaborate with upstream/analytical teams to ensure integrated vector recovery and purity. This role requires strong leadership and regulatory awareness.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred, or MS) in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years (PhD) or 8+ years (MS) of experience in process development or manufacturing within a biotech or pharmaceutical setting.
• Strong knowledge of bioprocess modeling/simulation and interaction of biomolecules, materials, and machinery.
• Experience with modeling software and programming languages such as Python and/or MATLAB.
• Strong experience in purification, chromatography, and TFF, with downstream process development expertise.
• GMP manufacturing understanding and CMC strategies for clinical-stage products.
• Experience with lentiviral vector technologies or related biotech/advanced therapy process development is a plus.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, leadership, and problem-solving skills with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Build mechanistic and hybrid models influencing LVV downstream processing for efficiency.
• Apply mass transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics to in silico process models.
• Perform data analytics and ML-based clustering to generate process insights.
• Develop downstream processes including depth filtration, centrifugation, chromatography and TFF.
• Lead tech transfers from bench to GMP manufacturing and support clinical production runs.
• Design APC strategies to optimize process performance.
• Identify project acceleration opportunities with senior leadership.
