Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer to support gas, coal, renewable, and new-generation power projects. You will establish design basis requirements and provide civil/structural oversight across development, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operation.

This role involves site development, grading, foundations, structural steel, buildings, and utilities, working with A/E firms, EPC contractors, OEMs, and internal stakeholders to ensure safety,

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree and/or PE license preferred.
• 8+ years of related engineering experience or 6+ years with MS/PhD.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) preferred in the U.S./Puerto Rico.

Responsibilities

• Develop civil and structural design criteria, standards, and specifications.
• Perform and review analyses, calculations, drawings, specifications, and construction deliverables.
• Support site grading, drainage, foundations, structural steel, buildings, roads, utilities.
• Coordinate interfaces across geotechnical, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and I&C.
• Review equipment loads, anchorage, installation constraints, and support requirements.
• Support permitting, environmental compliance, and regulatory requirements.
• Provide construction support including RFIs, inspections, QA/QC, shop drawings, NCR resolution, and as-builts.
• Evaluate retrofit/modification projects and lifecycle asset management planning.
• Support project estimates, schedules, procurement activities, and technical evaluations.
