Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an Application Engineer in Houston to develop software for EMS applications used by utilities to monitor, study, optimize, and simulate power networks. You will work on highly available Energy Management Systems across Linux/Windows environments, applying power systems modeling, simulation, and numerical methods to real-time grid operations.

You will design, develop, test, and maintain applications that support load flow, state estimation, and operator training

Qualifications

• Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems.
• Experience with software development, debugging, and performance tuning is desirable.
• Solid knowledge of power system studies, modeling, simulation, optimization, and numerical methods.
• Familiarity with EMS applications (load flow, state estimation, etc.).
• Proficiency in programming languages (C#, C/C++, Java, Python, or FORTRAN) and Linux/Windows development.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, review, and maintain power systems EMS applications.
• Build software supporting electrical utility operations and DER use cases.
• Collaborate with team to meet definition of done in planning, development, and testing.
• Apply power system studies, modeling, simulation, optimization, and numerical methods to apps.
• Support EMS-related applications such as load flow, contingency evaluation, and state estimation.
• Identify issues and drive resolution with the team.
