Job summary

Coinbase is seeking an Employment Counsel to provide day-to-day employment law counseling and global compliance support for ~5,000 employees across 20+ countries. You will manage a counseling portfolio on performance, discipline, and exits while supporting employment agreements and AI tooling compliance.

You will also advise on international matters, coordinate with outside counsel, and help drive HR compliance programs as Coinbase expands, including EEO-1 and pay equity.

Qualifications

• J.D. with active U.S. state bar membership and 5+ years of employment law experience, including meaningful in-house experience advising HR business partners on the full range of employment matters.
• Strong U.S. advice-and-counsel experience across performance management, terminations, accommodations and leaves.
• Hands-on experience with employment litigation and administrative charges, including position statements, discovery, litigation holds and outside counsel coordination.
• Working knowledge of U.S. HR compliance requirements (EEO-1, OFCCP, pay equity) and AI employment law regulatory landscape.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own a people relations counseling portfolio, providing first-line legal support on performance management, disciplinary processes, accommodations, policy questions, and exits.
• Advise on international employment matters across 20+ country footprint, partnering with outside local counsel and HR.
• Support employment agreement workflows, including offer letters, separation agreements, transfer letters, and relocation agreements.
• Drive compliance support for AI tool deployments in recruiting and HR, reviewing tool deployments against the AI compliance framework.
• Partner with the People team on HR compliance, including EEO-1, OFCCP, and pay equity.
• Support employment litigation and administrative proceedings, including drafting EEOC statements and discovery.
• Track employment law developments and translate into practical guidance for HR partners.
