Job summary

Databricks Inc. in the United States seeks a Senior Counsel, Employment to provide sophisticated legal advice to the People Team and business leaders, focusing on HR AI adoption, compensation and benefits, pay equity, global mobility, employee privacy, and M&A diligence. This role will be based in the U.S.

and lead cross-regional projects. You will partner with recruiting, privacy and product legal teams, security, tax, and corporate development to resolve disputes and guide employment strategy

Qualifications

• JD from a top-tier law school; member of a state bar in good standing.
• 10+ years of relevant employment-law experience advising sophisticated organizations; in-house experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with compensation, benefits, pay equity, executive compensation, recruiting, global mobility, and immigration.

Responsibilities

• Advise on cash compensation programs, bonus and incentive plans, clawback policies, equal-pay requirements, pay equity reviews, compensation governance, and related disclosures.
• Provide legal advice on employee benefits, including retirement plans, welfare and wrap plans, severance plans, leave-related benefits, and country-specific protections.
• Draft, review, and update employment-related plans, policies, agreements, templates, and employee communications with precision.
• Advise recruitment on offer letters, employment agreements, compensation terms, background checks, hiring practices, and negotiations.
• Advise on global mobility and immigration matters, including international assignments and work authorization.
• Support employment aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and investments, including diligence and workforce integration.
• Advise on employee privacy and data-use, including data transfers and monitoring.
• Review HR AI tools and workflows for risks and governance controls.
• Lead global employment projects from scoping to implementation with timelines and budgets.
• Monitor developments affecting compensation, benefits, privacy, AI, and related areas, translating into guidance.
• Identify process improvements to scale Legal and People teams with playbooks and automation.
• Serve as hands-on problem solver for high-priority cross-functional issues.
• Respond to U.S. demands, disputes, and settlements as needed.
